Vienna has been consumed by torrential and frequent rain this week. Today it just did not stop! So, I took myself to the Wien Museum and had a lovely time looking at paintings and artefacts chanelling the Vienna of times gone by.
I was also captivated by the current exhibition- photographs taken of Vienna by writter Gerhard Roth over the last 20 years. In his pictoral diary of the city he encapsulates behind the scenes at the Imperial Court Archives, the Gugging House of Artists, the Sigmund Freud Museum, the Traiskirchen Refugee Camp and most intrigingly The Tower of Fools- where there are kept specimens in jars of babies born as cyclops, siamese and mermaids (with joined legs). Quite disturbing.
The museum also holds works by Gustav Klimt (see above).
I rounded off the weekend with a trip to the gorgeously old fashioned Burg Kino on the Openring, to see Robin Hood; the legend of whom of course originates in NOTTINGHAM!
